Joan (Jo-an) Lukehart has been a crafter for a good part of her life. She is interested in sewing, ceramics, painting, and, the last 20 years, beads. BEADS, BEADS, BEADS. She is self-taught, learning from books written by Peggy Sue Henry, “Beads to Buckskins”. Peggy Sue is a master beader and artist. Joan’s motto has always been “If I think I can do it, I CAN!”

Loom beading captured her heart and has become her trademark, featuring the split loom necklaces. She has branched out to include many other styles, namely: peyote stitch bracelets and necklaces, bead embroidery around “copper splashes” and beautiful slabs of natural agate. She also incorporates natural prehistoric items, such as ammonites and orthoceras, into the beadwork.

Joan has lived in Arizona since 1969, coming here with her Air Force husband and children. Both of them originally hailed from Missouri. Chuck retired from the Air Force in 1969, after serving 20 years, and they elected to remain in the beautiful State of Arizona. Her association with “Creative Destination” began about 10 years ago when she was asked to do a Trunk Show for the store. The rest is history.

Joan is currently teaching at Creative Destination.
